TRUCKEE, Calif. — A 2.2-mile portion of the Truckee River Legacy Trail running west of Tahoe-Truckee Sanitation Agency plant to the Glenshire subdivision will be ready for public use by Aug. 8.

“The completion of this segment to Glenshire is truly momentous — an effort that I believe will transform the way many people in Truckee get around town,” said Allison Pedley, executive director of Truckee Trails Foundation. “And, it’s only the beginning. The Truckee Trails Foundation will continue working with the town of Truckee to bring even more community connectivity through trails, all in an effort to make Truckee even healthier, safer and more livable.”

At 4 p.m. on Aug. 8, the town will host a ribbon cutting ceremony off Glenshire Drive by the Glenshire/Devonshire Monument sign to christen the section.

Afterward, a bike ride on the trail will commence, ending at the Truckee River Regional Park, where a community celebration will take place.

Those wanting to ride their bike one-way can park their vehicle at 3 p.m. at the regional park, according to the town, where a shuttle will take them and their bikes to the ceremony. Children 12 and under will receive a prize if they decorate their bike.

In April, Truckee Town Council approved an early completion cash incentive for the section, dubbed Phase 3B.

With completion, the Truckee River Legacy Trail will be about five miles long, with two more phases planned to form a connection between Donner Memorial State Park and Glenshire.
